The Civics Project

Young people want access to civic education and engagement opportunities, but few have frequent opportunities to do so, even outside of school. Nine in 10 young people (91%) believe that everyone should have access to civic education, however, just four in 10 (43%) young people feel even somewhat prepared, based on their civic education experiences, to participate civically.

Civics is for Everyone.

In a moment of heightened national political turmoil and uncertainty, young people seek the skills and knowledge necessary to engage with their governments. In Maine, the Civics Project is strengthening and increasing access to civic engagement opportunities at local, regional, and state levels.

Partner organizations are hosting regional events and issue-focused action opportunities for youth to engage civically in their communities across the state. Use the calendar and/or events page to find in person and virtual opportunities to learn, engage, and contribute to our communities.

The Civics Project launches in September and includes events through December 2025. Click through the calendar to find an event near you! If you are hosting a civics education or engagement event geared towards young people in Maine, please email us!

Beyond the events featured above, young people have launched several video resources to connect communities to civic leaders and inspire your next move! From a civics PSA built just for Mainers, to a news station created and run by high school students, there are some great resources waiting to be explored!
